A large Minneapolis employer with close to 1,500 employees was facing the imminent loss of several employee parking lots as previously vacant parcels redeveloped around its downtown location.
Knowing that employee concerns about their parking and work commute was a key component of employee satisfaction and retention, they sought to find alternatives to the way their remaining parking was used and discover streamlined approaches for connecting their employees with the variety of transit and transportation alternatives available in the downtown.
CDG was hired to develop a Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Plan that would more efficiently use their remaining parking capacity while also setting up employee benefit tools and approaches that simplified employee commutes, reduced overall costs, and increased employee satisfaction.
Some ot the approaches included in the TDM plan included a reallocation of remaining parking, the introduction of tools to favor and encourage carpooling, subsidized transit and bicycle commute benefits (significantly less costly than previous subsidies offered for parking), centralized commute guidance and information, and recommendations for longer-term transportation / commute planning and benefits tracking.
The plan helped setup travel alternative programs that have continued to support the employer's success and employee satisfaction over the years subsequent to plan adoption.
